Bug Description

I noted (when I had no sound in 2.6.24-12.19) that when there is no sound card, totem does not want to play videos.

When I try to play a video it echoes the following message and stops:
** Message: Error: Failed to connect stream: Invalid argument
    pulsesink.c(411): gst_pulsesink_prepare (): /play/abin/audiosinkbin/audio-sink/bin6/autoaudiosink1/autoaudiosink1-actual-sink-pulse

where I expect to get a message there is no audio but be able to play the video. The audio output in gstreamer-properties is set to auto. There is no option for a "null" device or something like that. Version of gstreamer-pulseaudio is 0.9.7-1.

I can confirm this; but in my case it happens when, after a time using the computer with Ubuntu Hardy (2.6.24-17-generic), the soundcard stops running misteriously, and then all the players refuse to reproduce everything, stoping video after the first second; I tested gmplayer too. If I use avidemux I get the message "there is a problem with audio" but the video continues.

Even the USB stops working as usual, doesn't detect nothing. I will fill a bug with the audio stops working in my case, it forces me to reboot twice a week.
