Bug Description

Binary package hint: xfdesktop4

This happens with an updated Xubuntu Hardy.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Select an icon and drag it away from its original position without dropping it.
2. Still without dropping it, come back to its original position.
3. Then move the icon you are dragging in little circles as if you wanted to "paint" this area with a brush in Gimp ;)

Results: There are two results.

1. If a copy of the icon remained at its original position (this seems to be the case for the floppy, which is still displayed while dragging it somewhere else), this will erase partially this original copy, replacing it with the background image. If you circle over it again, the texture seems to reappear.
2. If the icon was erased from its orginal location (home folder for example, which is not displayed on its orginal location while dragging it), this will make it reapper little by little !

I've an old nvidia card on this desktop using the basic xorg setup without any tweaking, with the nv driver.

I confirm the same issue.
Before with Kubuntu 7.10 everything was perfect, then with the new 8.04 on my Kubuntu desktop I can paint with dragging the icon.

I try to boot with an old Kubuntu Live 7.10 CDROM and everything works perfect
I try to boot with a new Ubuntu Live 8.04 CDROM and everything works perfect
I try to boot with a new Kubuntu Live 8.04 CDROM and there's the icon drag problem

So the problem is related to the Kubuntu 8.04 and drive Nvidia, I think.
I use a Geforce FX 5500, AMD64 Athlon, Ive tryed many solutions, Envyng too, but a the moment I've not find a solution

I hope to find a solution, otherwise I go on Ubuntu

I do not experience this problem on an up-to-date xubuntu 8.04 install with the intel driver on an intel video card.

moving an icon around in a "painting" manner allows a shaded image of the icon to remain in its original location until I "drop" the icon in the new location. then the image in the old location instantly disappears, and the icon is placed in the new location by the regular looking icon.

it sounds like jerome is experiencing a different issue than what i have described above, but let me know if i have misunderstood the original report.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Can you try with latest Ubuntu release? Thanks in advance.

I don't have this particular computer anymore, so I can't test this.

Moreover, upstream recently enabled double buffering for the desktop in the future release of Xfce, which should fix issues like the one I had.
