Bug Description

It appears a recent update to livecd-rootfs (https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/livecd-rootfs/2.664.48) has made buildd images non-bootable using QEMU. So far, I've found this affects daily Focal buildd images, but as of this writing, I'm still testing out other series.

Running QEMU by hand such as we would in Multipass along with the QEMU console shows that it gets stuck at the grub prompt.

I have rolled back livecd-rootfs in focal-updates to 2.664.47, the previous version.

However, the purpose of this livecd-rootfs SRU was to fix a build failure that was expected to impact all buildd image builds when using the new launchpad livefs builder code.

Were the daily buildd images not failing to build in focal without this change?

If they were, then rolling back livecd-rootfs doesn't help much, since the latest daily build will still be the one that fails.

The image builds are at https://launchpad.net/~cloud-images/+livefs/ubuntu/focal/cpc-buildd but this doesn't show me history prior to the livecd-rootfs SRU.

Digging through the API shows me successful builds in focal prior to the livecd-rootfs update on the 7th, e.g.:

https://api.launchpad.net/devel/~cloud-images/+livefs/ubuntu/focal/cpc-buildd/+build/462724

So, since this was intended to be a fix for a build failure, and the image build didn't fail in focal, I'm rescinding the focal SRU of livecd-rootfs altogether.
