[Hardy] - GDM 2.20.4-0ubuntu2 without automatic login

Bug Description

Can't enable automatic login in Hardy. In System>Admin>Initial Session Window if one makes some changes GDM crashes and restart for user login.
That is similar to bug #49940 reported and fixed in Dapper.
A weird sound noise can be heard in background but couldn't find the process causing this behaving. A syslog is attached showing problems with greeter and gdmplay.

Today gdm prefetchlist update removed the weird sound but trying to set automatic login on System > Admin > Initial Session Window makes gdm crash and re-login.

The weird sound problem was resolved with recent pulseaudio package updating and regarding sound everything is working fine.

I granted permissions to shutdown, hibernation and suspend system to the user in System>Admin>Authorizations without success.

On System > Admin > Initial window session the gtk-gui of gdmsetup makes X crash and system to re-login.
