It would be interesting to find out how you are trying to update packages from over 6 months ago. The current releases of anything KDE 4 for both Gutsy and Hardy are version 4.0.2.

Changed in kde4addons:
status: New → Invalid

There are still kde 3.92 packages in universe (and similar in gutsty-backports I believe). They're the source of a few failed kde4 installs that pop up on irc lately from people that search adept or synaptic before reading the kubuntu.org instructions.

They should be removed or replaced with something that points to the current naming and version of kde 4.0.x.

Actually, I first tried to install kde4 from the repositories before looking
at the instructions in kubuntu.org. When I submitted the bug report I had
already installed it "correctly", but I chose to report it anyway since,
certainly, this seems a bug to me. In my opinion, a package which cannot be
installed should not be in the repositories, since this can be very
confusing to many users.
