Bug Description

In Breezy, application/x-debian-package files are opened with gnome-app-install
but gnome-app-install doesn't install the application. This is very, very
confusing to an end-user.

Why isn't there a point'n'click method for installed .deb files?

Thanks for your bugreport.

Work is being done in the <email address hidden>/apt--local-install--0
branch to make it easy to install local deb files. The problem is that the
current tools are not able to do proper dependency resoultion for local deb
files. Unfortunately this is not ready yet and will be a breezy+1 feature. The
mime-type setting to g-a-i is a bug though.

I only see Archive Manager as an option for opening .debs. Has this been fixed
already, or have you tried opening a .deb with gnome-app-install before?

I must say I had never noticed the option there until a few days ago went to
check what was available for opening .deb files.

Debs are open with file-roller on my system. I mark this bug a duplicate of the
general problem that debs can't be directly installed easily.
