Bug Description
Binary package hint: totem
I have Ubuntu 7.10 with the Studio theme installed.
My video card is an ATI Radeon X1550 with 256 Mb.
At first I made an attempt of manually installing my video card in Ubuntu but after several re-installations I had to resort to the Envy way of installing my video card as I was not able to get through all the setup steps in the terminal. A lot of times when I entered the commands which were explained in various forums I received error messages so I decided to give Envy a try instead.
The result of this is that compiz fusion is working and all effects work well. Also I have the ATI control panel installed on my system which gives the correct output. Also the restricted drivers are installed.
However, I have one problem and that is that video is not working well in any application. Even the screen saver flickers.
My question is: Has this to do with a missing codec or does my card need additional configuration in Ubuntu?
I have read previous comments on Envy and all are about de-installing this and manually configuring the video card.
If this has to be done then could you please provide me with a clear step-by-step guide how to do this, keeping in mind that I am new to Linux in general but very willing and open to learn more about this potentially fantastic Operating System?
At the moment I am still dual booting with Windows XP but find that I am less and less inclined to use this.
Thank you for your support in advance.

Thanks for reporting this issue.
Does the problem affect all applications that display 3d graphics?
Please try turning compiz (desktop effects) off. Does it fix the problem?
