Bug Description

Binary package hint: inkscape

The maximized view of Inkscape does not stay still when I click it. Look at the two pictures attached. Inkscape switches between the two when I click anywhere on Inkscape. My resolution is 1024x768 with Compiz. Hardy Beta.

This is a HUGE pain when trying to make something and when you clikc the app moves up or down and you misplace the drawing.

Confirmed here on a fresh hardy 20070417 live i386 installation with compiz not activated. This bug is terribly annoying.

Changed in inkscape:
importance: Undecided → High
milestone: none → ubuntu-8.04
status: New → Confirmed

This is working fine for me. Must be something particular about your environment?

I think this kind of bug is not severe enough to warrant milestoning at this late point in the development cycle unless it affects *everyone*. Since it seems this isn't the case, I'm dropping the milestone.

Changed in inkscape:
importance: High → Medium
milestone: ubuntu-8.04 → none

It does affect me also. Not only does it not maximize properly, but I also loose any ability to access menus after the first time I maximize it.

This happens in a freshly installed Hardy beta, with all updates.

And while it is not serious to ubuntu as a project, it is serious to those who plan to use inkscape on a regular basis.

My experience is exactly the same as nglnx. I changed from Debian to Ubuntu 8.04b and found this problem (my system is completely fresh). Now, i just remind me not to maximize the window by accident. Since I use inkscape frequently, it is really a pain for me.

I set to High, because this bug seems to affect all users that have 1024x768 screen resolution.
My first bug was reported on my notebook that have 1024*768.
On my 2 others PC, no problem with maximisation, before i set them to 1024*768 (they was at 1280*1024). After that, first click on maximise icon seems to work right, second click on maximisation -> big problems, strange comportement, click don't work, windows is under top menu...

Changed in inkscape:
importance: Medium → High

This is interesting; this bug stopped affecting me when I changed my theme from human to another one with a smaller titlebar, like crux. So, I suggest that the default theme be changed so that the titlebar is about 2-5 pixels smaller.

Patrice,

This happens to me with 1280x768 resolution, so it seems to be a problem that spans several resolutions.

Michael James,

I can confirm that changing the theme to crux makes the problem go away. Changing back to human theme resurfaces the problem.

However, changing the default theme is not a viable solution, since this affects people using other themes (Clearlooks, for example).

Trying to understand why inkscape does not play well with several gnome themes and patching inkscape package accordingly is a much more reasonable proposal.

Strange, my x60s does 1024x768 and I do not get this bug. Does this happen with all graphics cards/drivers?

I am on a Lenovo r60, I think the x60s have the same video card, so have you perhaps changed some config files or something?

This also affects other applications, like easytag, as can be seen in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/208079
