"update manager" - error installing "gnome-menu-extended_0.8-1_all.deb"

thanks for taking the time to report this bug. Could you give us some more information to help track down the problem. Could you describe step by step what you were trying to do when the error occured. If you were trying to upgrade could you explain what versions you were upgrading between. Also, if it was an upgrade could you attach the log files found in /var/log/dist-upgrade

I was tryng to install the "gnome-menu-extended":

romolo@romolo-desktop:~$ sudo dpkg -i gnome-menu-extended_0.8-1_all.deb

 and if I try to remove:

I have the same problem, I use Ubuntu 7.10
I receive the same error from Synaptic, that does no work any more:
'E:The package gnome-menu-extended needs to be reinstalled, but I can't find an archive for it.'
If I try to force the remove:

"giorgiatullo@giorgiatullo-desk:~$ sudo dpkg --remove --force-remove-reinstreq gnome-menu-extended
[sudo] password for giorgiatullo:
dpkg - attenzione, ignoro il seguente problema perché si è usata --force:
 Il pacchetto si trova in uno stato di inconsistenza grave - dovresti
 reinstallarlo prima di cercare di rimuoverlo."

It says that the package is in a situation of serious Inconsistency and must be reinstalled before to remove it.... but is impossible te reinstall.

I've tried to reproduce this bug for testing purposes and couldn't find gnome-menu-extended in synaptic anywhere but then I'm a KDE user. A quick google search leads me here http://www.gtk-apps.org/content/show.php/Gnome+Menu+Extended+(Debian+Package)?content=73515. Is this the package we're talking about

This package does not appear to be a part of ubuntu according to packages.ubuntu.com. This bug should be reported to the programs original author.
