Bug Description

Binary package hint: compiz

Just upgraded to Gutsy and have since been experiencing system lockups. Machine had to be turned off in 3 separate instances.

Symptons: Usually occurs during high cpu load. Several applications were open including gcolor2, firefox3b5, eclipse with aptana plugin, update manager, evince. Mainly occured during some form of animation due to a transition from one window to another. System goes into complete lockup, mouse moves but no buttons or shortcuts respond. I am unable to switch to another virtual terminal and the system doesn't respond to ctrl+alt+delete to reboot.

Disabling compiz from the appearance applet seems to have stopped the problem from occuring as yet.

My system is fully updated as of today the 8th of april.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a ".crash" file. Please follow these instuctions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.
