Bug Description

In the latest Breezy-s gnopernicus (0.11.6) therei is no support
for BRLTTY.
In this version BRLTTY is only present if you have it before
configuring Gnopernicus.

Thanks for your bugreport - could you please tell me how to verify that BRLTTY
support works? I have no devices with Braille capability available.

I poked a bit at the problem, but it seems that even the newer version of
gnopernicus would require a NEW brltty (version 3.7), which would depend on a
libbraille, we don't have. I'm sorry to say: if nobody (who's more experienced
and maybe has access the the necessary devices) volunteers to do this work
quickly, we won't make it for the Breezy release. Sorry.

At the moment, Gnopernicus includes BRLTTY as a
braille device only if this (BRLTTY) is present in
compile time.
I have tested it with BRLTTY 3.6.2 and Gnopernicus
0.11.6 and there is no problem. I have built a package:
http://repositorio.tiflolinux.org:81/brltty_3.6.2-
1_i386.deb
and then build Gnopernicus. That worked for me in the
breezy preview.

Did you try with Dapper and could report back how that works for you?

Hi,

Just a notice: brltty doesn't _depend_ on libbraille. It can use it if it is available, but this is not mandatory. Brltty already has a _lot_ of drivers, and I even wonder whether using libbraille provides any better devices support :) (it was rather a proof of concept port).

Samuel

Ahhh, good to know, thanks Samuel. If anybody else can give input on how BRLTTY works with the Dapper gnopernicus (just uploaded 1.0.2), I'd be very happy.

And BTW, you don't need to have any braille device for testing brltty.
Just use the xw (XWindow) driver. See Documents/README.Gnopernicus and
BrailleDrivers/XWindow/README

Samuel

Closing as fixed. We now use Orca as our main screen reader and it does now have braille support. There are some remaining issues for Feisty, but there are separate bugs filed.
