Bug Description

I installed Ubuntu 8.04 Beta on a Dell Dimension 9200 with the following spec:
Dell Dimension DXP061
Intel Core2 6320 @ 1.86Ghz
2.00GB DDR2 RAM
Video: NVidia GeForce 8300 GS

After an error-free installation from the Live CD, I booted into Ubuntu 8.04. I received a black screen with a "Thinking" or "Busy" mouse icon. It animated for one to two frames in the animation prior to seizing. I am still able to move the mouse around the black screen. My keyboard is unresponsive. I let the machine sit for ten minutes prior to doing a hard-reboot.

I can boot into Restoration / Safe Mode to console without any issues. I cannot start Xorg from that mode.

What logs can I view to locate the reason for this problem?

Hi William,

Sorry for the extremely delayed response here. You reported this way back against Hardy Beta. I'm just curious if this was still an issue with Hardy's Final 8.04 release or with Hardy's 8.04.1 point release?

If the issue still exists with Hardy would you be willing to test Intrepid Ibex 8.10 Beta release that just came out - http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/intrepid/beta . You should be able to test using a LiveCD.

Please let us know your results. If the issue still exists in Intrepid, providing the debugging information outlined at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Reporting would be helpful. Thanks.

Thanks for the feedback William. I actually got access to a Dell Dimension 9200 in the lab here and was able to test the Intrepid Beta release. The machine booted just fine and Xorg came up as expected. So this does not seem to be an issue any longer. I'll go ahead and close this report. Thanks.
