KDE keyboard variants not working

Bug Description

In the KDE systemsettings GUI, if I select the keyboard layout U.S. English with
a layout variant of alt-intl, nothing happens. It seems like the GUI is just
not running the command "setxkbmap -model pc104 -layout us -variant alt-intl"
that it says it will run. If I run that command myself, from a bash window, it
works fine, so it must be something the GUI isn't doing right.

Thak you for your bug report. Do you still have this problem? If so, which version of Kubuntu are you using?

This works fine for me in a recent version of Dapper.

This is still a bug in Breezy running either KDE 3.5.2 or 3.4.3.
It could be simply that the GUI does not provide the
full path name to setxkbmap.

The information at

helped first me and then another person solving this problem.

Symlinking /usr/share/X11/xkb to /etc/X11/xkb (which should exist - if /usr/share/X11/xkb also exists already as a directory, it is probably empty except for a README file, and can be removed) solved the problem.

Do you have this problem on Edgy or Feisty?

I haven't tried Edgy or Feisty.

I am closing this bug because it lacks information from a recent release and Breezy is no longer supported. Please reopen if you still have this problem in Feisty.
