X does not start with 4GB of RAM

Bug Description

I have 8.04 (amd64) and 3GB of RAM. When I installed an additional 1GB X fails to start. (However the Ubuntu animated progress bar works). I have an nVIdia card and am using the nVidia driver.

This will help us complete the report so the developers can review it.
