    Calculating the changes

    Could not calculate the upgrade

A unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade.

    This can be caused by:
    * Upgrading to a pre-release version of Ubuntu
    * Running the current pre-release version of Ubuntu
    * Unofficial software packages not provided by Ubuntu

If none of this applies, then please report this bug against the
'update-manager' package and include the files in
    /var/log/dist-upgrade/ in the bugreport.

Thanks for the logs.

It looks like you run "do-release-upgrade" to perform a desktop ugprade. Please run "do-release-upgrade -m desktop" (see http://wiki.ubuntu.com/UpdateManagerFaq for details). Please let me know if that worked.

Thanks for Your answer.
I restarted my system then did "apt-get upgrade", and now everything seem to
be ok - update manager works.

Oh, yah! Sweet!

Thank you Michael Vogt the "do-release-upgrade -m desktop" did the trick.
I still don't understand why the GUI update manager got stuck. I moved too quickly to command line so I could see what was going on with the GUI .... not thinking to look at the logs that the GUI produced.
