Bug Description

There's a whole lot of funkyness going on with Breezy's handling of the IBM
Thinkpad T30's internal 802.11x card. Here's the details:

System -> Administration -> Networking shows TWO wireless network cards ( eth0
and eth3 ) and one ethernet card ( eth1 ) even though I only have one of each.

I set both wireless cards to have the same settings. When I boot up, eth3 is
not configured ( even though I configured it ) and eth0 is configured. Wireless
does not work however. It works when I configure eth3 ( to the same settings as
eth0 ) and then activate it.

On reboot the process repeats.

More info:

One of the duplicate wireless interfaces is always eth0. The other is sometimes
eth2 and sometimes eth3!

Any thoughts on what I can do to help debug this?

Thanks for your bugreport.

Can you please add the output of:
$ sudo ifconfig
(and if any of eth0,eth1,eth2,eth3 do not show up, "sudo ifconfig
$name_of_the_not_listed_interface"?

Thanks,
 Michael

Thanks for looking into this. Requested info below. Seems like the bug ( or at
least one of the bugs ) is lower-level than network-admin.

Thanks for this additional information. It seems indeed that this is a problem
with the kernels network drivers.

Can you please attach the output of lspci and of the iwconfig command to this
bugreport?

lspci output is included in my first comment. I wonder if its significant that
the hw address of eth0 looks like it is ipv6 while eth2 is ipv4? Thanks again.

Unfortunately I don't have time to upgrade and see if the problem persists. Perhaps you should close the case, and when I (eventually) upgrade to Dapper I will re-open it if the problem recurrs.
