Bug Description

Binary package hint: gcl

lsb_release -rd:
Description: Ubuntu 8.04
Release: 8.04

apt-cache policy gcl:
gcl:
  Installed: 2.6.7-34
  Candidate: 2.6.7-36
  Version table:
     2.6.7-36 0
        500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com hardy/universe Packages
 *** 2.6.7-34 0
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

The error was reported three times while upgrading from Ubuntu 7.10 to 8.04, all at the installation step of the upgrade. If I understood correctly, the first report occurred while removing the old version. The second report occurred while installing the new version (because the old version was still in place). The third report occurred at the end of the upgrade, when the upgrade program asked me to send a bug report, which is what I am currently doing.

Thanks for reporting this bug.
Can you please attach the files from /var/log/dist-upgrade/ to this bug report? Those files are the logs of the upgrade and will give us more information about what went wrong.

As requested. I hope these help. (Note: after finishing the upgrade to 8.04 through Synaptic, I went into the terminal and used "sudo apt-get upgrade" which upgraded to the 8.04 gcl successfully.)

gcl in Hardy depends on emacs22 | emacsen, but gcl in Gutsy and Dapper does not. gcl's prerm runs /usr/lib/emacsen-common/emacs-package-remove if it exists.
