Update Manager - locks up every time I try to run it

Bug Description

I'm new to Linux/trying it out. Running Ubuntu 8.04. A notification in the upper righthand corner indicates that I have updates ready to install. However, when trying to run the update manager....the app just dims out and freezers. I can force quit from the 'System Monitor', but the same thing happens if I again try to run the update. I tried to de-select most of the updates, and just run ~3 of them. but the same lock-up results. Any advice re: resolving the problem would be appreciated: <email address hidden>

I think this is a duplicate of another bug.

You can try in the terminal running
sudo update-manager

There are some other work-arounds to try in that bug.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Thanks in advance.

Chris: yes...the problem persisted. Prompted by this bug, as well as
problems using my wireless PCI card, I un-installed Ubuntu and went
back to Windoze. The problems may have been unique to my PC...I don't
know. I could probably figure it out if I had more time to work on it,
but I do not. In any case, I gave up. However, when released I do plan
to try/test the next Ubuntu version. Overall, the OS is good. Thanks.
