Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

I'm using FF3 RC1.

If you drag an URL or other text to the favicon in the URL bar, it goes to that address or performs a search, depending on which type of text you dragged.

This is the feature I would like: if you're keeping the alt key pressed while dropping the text into the favicon, open it in a new tab. This would be handy because sometimes I see URLs which are not clickable, and I have to select them, press ctrl+t to open a new tab, go back to the old tab and drag the selected text to the new tab.

Would that be possible?

This is already implemented in another way.

Select the text, and drag it onto the "new window" or "new tab".

Does that solve your problem?

Yes, in a way. But I never really use those buttons or ctrl+T (I always write the URL and hit alt+enter to open a new tab) so I would need to crowd my toolbar just to drag the occasional link.

I really would prefer to use the favicon, which is already there anyway.

Hard to find the best solution for everyone. Such kind of things
should be implemented by extensions.
