Bug Description

Since last nights update of dovecot-imapd 1:1.0.10-1ubuntu5.1, I'm getting the error

Jun 1 09:16:03 lvps92-51-131-18 dovecot: IMAP(postmaster@DOMAIN): inotify_init() failed: Function not implemented

I have installed the packages:

dnotify install
inotify-tools install
libinotifytools0 install

Before the upadate, IDLE was working fine.

inotify_init man page says: "Inotify was merged into the 2.6.13 Linux kernel"

I have the same problem on my VPS and I assume that the kernel version of the VPS is too old (in my case 2.6.9....).

Well, you could be right. My Kernel-Version for the VPS is 2.6.9 too (Linux version 2.6.9-023stab046.2-enterprise (root@rhel4-32) (gcc version 3.4.5 20051201 (Red Hat 3.4.5-2)) #1 SMP Mon Dec 10 15:22:33 MSK 2007)

But, before the last update, the notify-System was working fine and I had no errors...

The version of ubuntu you're using normally comes with a newer kernel than that and you're probably doing something unsupported. You might bug your host and ask them to update to a modern version of the kernel.

seems to me this bug can be resolved by upgrading to a newer Linux kernel.
