When the screen saver is on, the update notifier still displays

When the computer is unattended my screen saver comes on but the yellow speech bubble appears over that screen saver. This is an issue for two reasons:
- It would cause screen burn if left unattended for long periods of time; and
- When the 'show me these updates' is clicked, the password dialogue is displayed but text cannot be entered into it and there is nothing that can be done to get rid of the screen saver. This left me having to hit the power button and have it shut down that way.
