Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures. At a minimum, we need: 1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem, 2. the behavior you expected, and 3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). You also mentioned that apparmor may be causing the problem. Please see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingApparmor for more information. Thanks!

Steps to reproduce:

1. Install Ubuntu Hardy *.04
2. Update all
3. Try to install MySQL via Synaptic
4. Watch it fail
5. Disable AppArmor, and watch MySQL start OK.

Any progress about this issue?
I've got the same problem when trying to install mysql-server - it fails at confiuguration time.

I don't know. I haven't tried to install it in some time, a month or
so perhaps. I will try again tonight and let you know if it still
fails.

mysql-server installation works fine here via synaptic and apt-get. No action has been taken because the requested information has not been provided. Please view the 'How to Triage' section of https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingApparmor and provide the necessary information.

In my case restarting my machine was a solution.
After reboot and marking mysql-server-5.0 to installation was successful, so AppArmor is not a problem in my case.
