Bug Description

Login to Gnome from gdm to full desktop takes 5 minutes. This seems to be due to
"auto lo" missing from /etc/network/interfaces.

I checked this behavior:

1. Without a network cable plugged in the login from completing the gdm login
until full desktop is about 25s. Logout is also just a couple of seconds.
2. With network cable plugged and lo _not_ configured the login time is around 5
minutes! Logout is also some minutes.
3. With network cable plugged and lo configured the login time is again 25s.
Logon again a couple of seconds.

When I work with network-admin sometimes "auto lo" seems to be removed from
/etc/network/interfaces causing the delay.

Thanks for your bug. GNOME is known to wait some time when the loopback is not
correctly configured. What did you do to have lo unset?

Well, I did nothing to unset lo.

"auto lo" somehow disappeared from /etc/network/interfaces and at the next boot
lo was not configured.

I did not touch /etc/network/interfaces manually but I'm heavily using the
network-admin application.

It seems that with some profiles that I have "auto lo" does not get added to
/etc/network/interfaces.

Where does network-admin stores the profiles?

The profile location depends of the version of the tools. Do you still use Ubuntu and do you still have that issue? What version of the distribution do you use?
