Bug Description

I have a Xerox Phaser connected to a Linksys wireless print server. To connect
to this setup, I use the "remote lpd queue" option in KPrintManager. Drivers
for this printer are not included in the standard distribution, so I downloaded
them from the internet and burned them to a CD.

From the list of printer drivers, I choose "other", browse to the CD and select
the proper PPD file. When I continue through the rest of the dialogue
everything looks good until the end where I receive the error message
"client-error-not-found." The printer appears in the list of printers but the
test page fails.

If I copy the driver from the CD to my desktop, I can install it without trouble.

CUPS has been massively updated since this was reported. Does the problem still exist?

On my Ubuntu 5.10 installation, updated this morning from Ubuntu
repositories, this problem still exists. According to apt I am
currently using CUPS version 1.1.23-10ubuntu4.

Is this bug still present in the latest Dapper packages?

If it is not, or if someone knows that this bug has been fixed by a subsequent upload, please let us know so we can close this. The last activity on this bug was over a couple months ago.

Thank you for reporting this bug.

As far as I can tell, this has been fixed in the latest packages. I
followed these steps:
-wiped off my laptop with a complete reformat (I had to shift some
partitions around anyway)
-installed Dapper from the CD
-updated all packages using apt-get
-installed all of my normal programs
-installed my printer, using the drivers on the CD

The printer installed without a hitch, test page printed fine.
