Bug Description

Binary package hint: gthumb

If I run gthumb /somedirectory_with_jpg_pictures, gthumb shows window with message "no image". Opening of a single image works. Multiple images do not show thumbnails.

Try:

update-mime-database ~/.local/share/mime/

or

rm ~/.local/share/mime/

tried both, none helped.

I also removed /usr/local/share/mime and run update-mime-database /usr/share/mime but still the same result.

I finally got it work. Indeed, the problem has been in broken mime database.

How did you fix it?

Lukas Hejtmanek (xhejtman) wrote :

update-mime-database /usr/share/mime rebuilt the database but file permissions were 600 so no user could access the database. Also it looks like the system had to be restarted before database rebuild has been propagated. Now it works. Also evince was broken, no pdf file could be displayed.

Confirmed in gthumb. I did nothing to mime database yet. Evince works for me. It's in intrepid.

Confirmed in Intrepid.

Issuing command `rm -rf ~/.local/share/mime/` resolved the problem.

Does anyone have this bug in stable release? It could be that this bug is not problem to anyone and can be closed.

For me it was google-earth files that messed mime database.

Not a bug in gthumb, and closed upstream. If it is caused by Google Earth than that is their bug and Ubuntu does not provide support for them.
