Bug Description

http://web.ics.purdue.edu/~kuliniew/rhythmbox-applet/ The author of rhythmbox-applet states that the current version of rb applet doesn't work with rb 0.9 that is in breezy. It works sometimes but messes up at other times. I think rb applet should be disabled in breezy until it updated to work with the new rb.

This is indeed the case. Should we leave rhythmbox-applet out of dapper because of this? It isn't really useful without an upgrade.

I packaged the new version of rhythmbox-applet, it should hit Debian unstable soon so it will never make dapper.

rhythmbox-applet has be deprecated by the author in favor of his new music-applet, this can be seen on his website

I noticed this has not entered the dapper repositories

Music-applet is in Debian unstable for a while now. To make this applet work on Dapper, an upgrade of rhythmbox-applet is needed.

At the moment the package in Dapper is completely useless.

I took the debian/ folder from the debian package and did a dapper package :

This is my first public package so tell me if I did something wrong.

Few remarks: you will need the diff.gz to get your package uploaded.

I am the Debian maintainer for music-applet and afaik there is no need to rebuild the package for Ubuntu. MOTU ony has to do a sync.

The original bug talks about Breezy, while the applet has worked for me all of Dapper, it is now non-functional in Edgy. There is no connection at all, it can't control the player and gets no data either.

RH version 0.9.5, applet 0.1.7

From the rhythmbox-applet changelog entry for 0.1.9:
Added D-Bus support! Rhythmbox Applet now works with Rhythmbox 0.9.2 and later, in addition to Rhythmbox 0.8.8 and earlier.

So, version 0.1.7 only works with rhythmbox <= 0.8.8

The solution is to sync music-applet from Debian, as I said before. I do not know how to do that for Ubuntu though.
