Bug Description
Binary package hint: gdm
Currently gdm is recommending ubuntu-artwork:
root@portablema
|Recommends: ubuntu-artwork
|Recommends: edubuntu-artwork
I don't agree that this should be installed by gdm. It's actually already handled by ubuntu-desktop:
root@portablema
Depends: ubuntu-artwork
Derivative distros don't necessarily want ubuntu-artwork installed, and it is pulling in a lot of other packages that they may not want.

thank you for your bug report, gdm recommends the artwork because the gdm configuration is set by default to use the theme which is distributer there and it would display an error if this one was not available, note that you are not forced to install recommends and that the recommends are several alternative for distributions which have an another variant
