Bug Description

Binary package hint: pulseaudio

I've noticed this happening sometime while using Hardy. Originally sound worked perfectly since I installed Hardy.
But now sometimes the problem seems to be that Pulseaudio selects the wrong Audiocontroller as default output (see alsa-info)

The hosts of the Linux Outlaws podcast, episode 51 "Too Young for Jail", mentioned that the developer of PulseAudio finds that Ubuntu's implementation of PulseAudio is messed up, giving users the impression that PulseAudio itself is to blame.

I do not know what kind of *enhancements* Ubuntu developers have put into the Ubuntu PulseAudio package, but it seems like worth re-cheking things in the original PulseAudio package.

After issuing the " cat /proc/asound/cards " command, I've found that my usb skype phone was called *default* over my Intel ICH5 sound card.

I've put configured all my settings to use PulseAudio and test my usb phone with Skype ,and it didn't gave any problem.

Going to test PulseAudio with other audio outputs like Flash and stuff, and rebooting to see if everything continues to work.

The reason why I sent this bug report was because PulseAudio at random boots decides not to work anymore.

As expected, there is no sound coming from flash enabled websites.

This is more likely to be an issue with the Flash Plugin ( version 10 Beta ), but it would be handy if PulseAudio would lend a hand an resolve this internally rather than send a bug report to Adobe and wait yet another month or two to make the appropriate fixes.

Have you modified /etc/pulse/default.pa? If so, attach it.

I have this problem, and didn't modified /etc/pulse/default.pa

In pavucontrol > Output Devices, the wrong device is selected by default. When I correct it, the choice is not saved after the next reboot.
This is particularly annoying when working with full-screen programs, as it is harder to have access to pavucontrol then.
