Bug Description

Binary package hint: libtiff4

After upgrading to libtiff4_3.8.2-7ubuntu3.1_i386, I found that Gnome panel was broken. Left-clicking on quick-launch icons or drop-down menus in Gnome panel, or anything in the taskbar was ineffective (no programs launched or menus displayed or desktops switched). Only clicking on some applets was OK (for example the Gnome system monitor applet, or network configuration applet). Installing an older version of libtiff solved this problem.

After another system update that did *not* include the libtiff4 update, I find that I am again stuck with the same problem. Apparently this issue is not caused by one particular package, so it could very well not be a libtiff4 issue. I am investigating.

I haven't been able to reproduce this problem. You mentioned that another system update not including libtiff saw the same problems? Your /var/log/dpkg.log should show recent package installations/upgrades. Did anything else get installed around the same time?
