Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

I'm going to put the intel driver as a package because I think that's to blame for this.
When I play a movie in Totem, and then I move the window, either manually or through some plugin (scale, expo, etc.), the movie should still be playing completely within the window. For me, though, the window moves, but the movie stays where it was, so you have either a black window or a small window that only shows a small part of the movie. The movie goes back to the window when the plugin is finished, e.g. you stop moving the window or you exit the plugin.

Totem-gstreamer or Totem-xine? What output method are you using?

Can you change the output in the Totem settings to Textured and see if that makes a difference?

Nattgew:
type:
gstreamer-properties

then click on the Video tab and select "XWindows ststem (no xv)" in the "Plugin" combobox under "Default output".

See if this solves the problem.

Also you might want to play a bit with the other options and see if anything changes

I'm not finding any settings for textured output.
Alberto, I did that, and that worked. I used the Test button, and Autodetect (originally set) had the previous problem but the no "xv" output worked. Thanks!
Does that mean that this isn't a bug? Or is this a bug in xvideo?

It should be a limitation in Mesa. Something that will be fixed in the future.

This issue does not limit to video playback only - launching "glxgears" makes the gears display on top of every window. They simply do not go underneath.

I believe I'm suffering from the same bug.
I have an HP Pavillion dv1000 laptop with Intel 855GM integrated graphics. When having desktop effects turned on, and watching a movie in totem, moving the window or putting another window on top of it causes the window to become black even after the other window is moved away. Disabling desktop effects solved the problem.

We'd like to forward your bug upstream, however upstream requires
that you first test it against their newer driver code.

To save you the effort of building the driver from source, we've built
packages for the driver and its new dependencies.

So you have a couple options:

 1. Download and test .debs for intrepid, from:
     https://edge.launchpad.net/~intel-gfx-testing/+archive

 -or-

 2. Download and test the Jaunty alpha-2 (or newer) Live CD,
(which includes a beta of the new xserver 1.6 as well).
     See http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/9.04/ for ISOs

Thanks ahead of time! You can simply reply to this email to report your
findings.

P.S., if you wish to forward your bug upstream yourself, please follow
these directions to do so:

I can confirm this bug still occurs on Intrepid with the testing driver (version2:2.5.1-1ubuntu5~intrepid) installed.
