Bug Description

When my HP Deskjet 3745 printer runs out of paper, the small light on the button flashes, but I don't get any message in Ubuntu saying that the printer is out of paper.

This is important for have a user-friendly UI to printing in the operating system that is becoming "Linux for human beings".

Thank you.

I can't get this is work in intrepid.
Firstly, I only get a "message" at the beginning of a print. Not when the printer is out of paper.
Secondly, the notifications I get are in invisible ink! I need to take screenshot and edit in GIMP everytime I am to understand these messages!

(Notice: I have intentionally smudged the last line)

About the invisible ink, I have found the cause of the message not
appearing and filed a bug explaining what needs to be done (Bug 317874).

I have confirmed that both the Ubuntu printer manager and the hp-systray prompt for "Out of Paper" when there is an out of paper condition. It does however take a min or so to pop.

Try to retest?

Thanks!

Can't test at the moment, but isn't one full minute way too long?
