Bug Description

Intrepid Alpha, with latest updates

I am unable to login at all.

In GDM I am returned to the GDM login screen. If I exit to the consle the login prompt displays correctly but am unable to login there too. It replies with the following (not verbatim):

/usr/lib/sendmail: No such file or directory
"./dead.letter" 106/3871
. . . message not sent

...but, I am able to boot into single user mode. After installing an MTA (to fix the sendmail not found stuff) I now get NO response and still no login, in GDM or console.

Looking through the logs it seems there is a segfault in pam_smbpass.so called from login. When logging in from GDM this cause a GDM child to crash and from the console it causes tty1 to terminate with status 11.

After removing this package I can now login, so I think that has located the issue

The above comment refers to the binary package 'libpam-smbpass', which is where the issue is.
