trying to install application (nvidia-glx-config enable) i am asked for password but am unable to enter anything from keyboard

Where are you entering the password? That is, is this in a GUI dialog or at the terminal? At the terminal, this is expected behavior: when entering a password, no asterisks or other characters are echoed to the screen. In other words, the computer sees you entering the password, but it doesn't give any feedback.

Since this appears to be a resolved, I am going to mark this as "Invalid". Maybe it would be a good idea to have some sort of message the first time a user uses sudo noting that the password won't echo as stars.
