Bug Description

We'd like to request an update of the content in the local support page at http://www.ubuntu.com/support/community/locallanguage#hebrew-arabic

The changes consist in splitting the "Hebrew and Arabic" section into two individual ones and adding additional data for "Arabic" as described below, so that each community can be served in the best possible way.

Thanks!

Confirmed.

Since Ubuntu-Arabic now exists, the page http://www.ubuntu.com/support/local should be updated.
Plus, members from the Israeli team confirmed that they don't provide Arabic support.

http://www.ubuntu.com/support/local is also wrong with the website address, which should be www.ubuntu-il.com

Sorry, cannot do this, the links to http://Ubuntu-Arabic.org/ are to some place-holder site. Please suggest proper links or leave this as invalid.

As for the Arabic related stuff we better ask the Arabic LoCo leaders what do they prefer, as for the Israeli/Hebrew team I added the appropriate details.

Although Arabic is an official language in Israel most Israeli Jews can't speak Arabic so mixing is not such a good idea.

I just checked both the domain and the channel provided by Jad Madi, the IRC channel is almost inactive (3 members including me) and the website is a spider web.

The Hebrew listing should be as follows:
Hebrew

IRC: #ubuntu-il on irc.freenode.net is for Hebrew discussion and support.

Wiki Documentation: The Israeli community Wiki (http://wiki.ubuntu-il.org/)

    Ubuntu local Hebrew website: http://www.ubuntu-il.org/

Ubuntu-IL actually never gave support to the Arabic speakers population (even though i think it was nice if we could), mostly because we never had any Arabic members.

Maybe it's time that someone will fix it already, since it was reported 3 YEARS AGO!

Hi folks,

I just marked the bug as confirmed, since indeed Arabic language support should not be listed under the israeli team (which they mentioned they don't support). Also I can see the domain name "ubuntu-arabic.org" is not ready to be listed as an official support website

As such, please find a list of Arabic loco teams speaking Arabic:
http://pastebin.com/H845tGGN

Kindly fix the website to list those loco teams as official support venues for Arabic language

Will this list do the job, or we'll need a separate domain?
I noticed that http://ubuntu-arabic.org/ is pending renewal. On GoDaddy.com it can last for one year, so if the owner didn't respond, there should be another domain, I think.
@Rafik: any response so far?

There is no need for separate domain/team. It will take time to verify that
the team is active.

Many of the teams I contacted at that time didn't showed real interest in resolving this bug. I suspect nothing changed since.

But, since the Israeli team do not offer Arabic support, the action to be taken now is to completely remove Arabic from the list:

http://www.ubuntu.com/support/community/locallanguage

The bug should stay open and confirmed until a team officially takes the responsibility.

I am not sure what teams did you contact, but I am sure that the Egyptian team is ready for the task. I am not speaking for the Tunisian team but our friends their also should interest. We do provide Arabic support through our channels and we have been doing this for sometime now.

This bug was reported almost 3 years ago. I have lost faith more than a year and a half ago.

I was in Cairo a few days ago and I met some of the Ubuntu-eg guys. I also brought up this bug during the Arab Techies meeting.

I would be more than happy to see the Egyptian team taking Arabic support in charge.

Ahmed, you can assign the bug to yourself or ~egyptlocoteam

I am sorry but there is still one problem. Arabic appears in the middle of the list, and the list is sorted alphabetically. So, it should be on top of the list.
