FTBFS: "You must specify a valid JAVA_HOME or JAVACMD!"

Bug Description

I just tried to rebuild libsaxonb on hardy and it fails "debuild -S"

$ debuild -S
[...]
if [ "reverse-patches" != "reverse-patches" ]; then touch debian/stamp-patched; fi
if [ "reverse-patches" != "reverse-patches" ] ; then \
                /usr/bin/make -f debian/rules update-config ; \
        fi
for dir in debian/patches ; do \
            rm -f $dir/*.log ; \
        done
You must specify a valid JAVA_HOME or JAVACMD!
make: *** [ant-sanity-check] Error 1
dpkg-buildpackage: failure: fakeroot debian/rules clean gave error exit status 2
debuild: fatal error at line 1329:
dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot -d -us -uc -S failed

saxonb has build dependency on java-gcj-compat-dev. Do you have it installed.

The problem remains the same even after installing that package.

Installing all build dependencies did indeed then result in a successful compile. I just did not think these packages would be necessary for a simple "debuild -S" to create the source diff.gz and dsc file.
