Error trying to update to Intrepid from Hardy : failed to mark 'kubuntu-kde4-desktop' for install

Did you install a third party package which may prevent kubuntu-kde4-desktop from installing ? If so can you please remove those packages and replay the upgrade.

Can you try the following command and see what is the proposed solution:
$ sudo apt-get install kubuntu-kde4-desktop

Updateing as I logged duplicate issue (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/update-manager/+bug/281418)
I rebuilt my PC to KUBUNTU 7.10 and rerun:
kdesudo "adept_manager --dist-upgrade-devel"

Upgraded to 8.10 without any further problems.

I'm affraid that I just made a clean install yesterday.
Nevertheless I _did_ tried to do "$ sudo apt-get install kubuntu-kde4-desktop" and all it said is taht no candidates for installation were found.

I have the same error while trying to upgrade from 8.04 to 8.10 beta.

Thanks. There's not much evidence in it. The term.log is empty and there's no apt-term.log. You may need to user superuser privileges in order to read that file.

It seems that kubuntu-desktop as been held from a previous install.

Can you please try the following command and report the output ( or attach the file /var/log/apt/term.log )
sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop

term.log IS empty in the /var/log/dist-upgrade directory:

$ ls /var/log/dist-upgrade/term.log -l

sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop brings (sorry, german version):

$ sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop

But yes, kubuntu-desktop didn't seem to be installed for some reason. So after another "sudo apt-get update" I could install kubuntu-desktop.

After that, I'm not getting the kubuntu-kd4-desktop error any more. Thanx.

What about a sanity check before trying to upgrade? Like first doing an install of the kubuntu-desktop package before changing to the new apt-sources or just checking if kubuntu-desktop is installed?

TheDoc, I'm no kde master so I don't exactly know what the problem is and hence what is the solution. I'll let the devs handle it from here.

There's a small typo in the workaround: kde-desktop should read kubuntu-desktop
