Bug Description

kubuntu 8.10 intrepid, liveCD ver.Oct, 1st.

im not sure what happened since i have never seen this before, but when i select the install kubuntu option(the one in the boot menu, before entering the liveCD kubuntu) the screen shows weird colors and RGBs all over it, with some strange effects.
it stays that way for good, making it so that the only way you can install the OS is through the conventional -> boot the liveCD->test the system->select install while inside the guaranteed/working environment.

i use a nvidia 8600m GT, and a fast system.

if it happens right after you choose the boot option, it's something in the kernel that breaks it.

yes its right after it, its strange because regular boot n' test doesn't scramble everything, but this does.
like i said, ive never seen anything like this before, ever... it looked like a broken screensaver color-changing screen...

Hi kforum,

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/karmic .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 279525

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.
