Bug Description

Binary package hint: xorg

Logging back in after locking the screen resets the defaults of the mouse settings.

Release: Intrepid

Reproduce: Select "Left handed mouse" in gnome menu, lock screen, log back in.

[Update]
When the computer goes idle, the evdev module gets unloaded.
When the system un-idles, the evdev module is reloaded, but with the defaults.

Hi joseph-ruskiewicz,

Please attach the output of `lspci -vvnn`, and attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log file from after reproducing this issue. If you've made any customizations to your /etc/X11/xorg.conf please attach that as well.

Bryce:
I have attached the pre/post Xorg file and the results from "lspci -vvnn" which was the same in both Pre/Post of the bug.

Thanks.

It appears that when the computer sits idle, it is unloading unused modules (evdev) and then when I use the mouse it reloads it with the "default" settings again.

I get the same behavior sporadically on a HP NW8440 with suspend/resume.

I suspect, but have not verified, an association with using None, Normal, or Extra Visual Effects (i.e., metacity or compiz). Since toggling Visual Effects also causes other config changes such as window Always on Top, I wonder if the mouse handedness bug is representative of a more general config reset.

lspci --vvnn attached.

Additional notes:

It just happened again. compiz was enabled. (red herring?)

gconf-editor showed that /desktop/gnome/peripherals/mouse/left_handed is true (as does gnome-mouse-properties).

This resets leftiness:
$ gconftool --set /desktop/gnome/peripherals/mouse/left_handed --type boolean false
$ gconftool --set /desktop/gnome/peripherals/mouse/left_handed --type boolean true

Doesn't happen at least on my laptop running lucid, closing the bug.
