Bug Description

Binary package hint: nautilus

Steps to reproduce:

Click on Places menu
Click on any option like Home
Nautilus pops up the gksu password prompt.

Clicking on any local bookmarked folder name produces the same result. It should not do that, but just open the said directory. This started happening after I upgraded to Intrepid beta from Hardy.
Currently running an up-to-date Intrepid.

Thank you for your bug report and helping improve Ubuntu!

Can you please create a new user and test if this also happens logging in as the new user?

Interesting, I logged into the other user on the system and it did not ask for the password.

Additional info: It happens only with links on the Places menu. If I open a folder on desktop, it opens fine without asking for any password.

could you rename your .local directory and see if that's still an issue?

Thanks seb, that fixed it!
I noticed that the nautilus being launched was with root's home, and not my user's. Now it opens my user's home.

Is this a bug to be fixed, as it started happening when I upgraded to Intrepid beta?

what did you change to fix the issue?

Like you said, I renamed the ~/.local to something else, and then launched nautilus - it did not ask for the password and opened my home directory.

you likely got an issue similar to bug #260492 then and it should be fixed now in intrepid

closing the bug, you can reopen if you still trigger the issue using the current version though
