Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-settings-daemon

After todays update gnome-settings-daemon stop working. I can't start it manually eighter.

I use ubuntu 8.10 beta.

I attached gnome-settings-daemon --no-daemon output ( --debug gives no output ) and the list of packages updated with the last update.

I think the couse of the problem is /usr/lib/gstreamer-0.10/libgstlibvisual.so and only package updated today about gstreamer is bluez-gstreamer.

I tried to uninstall bluez-gstreamer , reinstall gstreamer-plugins-base but no good.

Please either:

- run with --gst-disable-segtrap and debug.

I have the same problem.

Think this is related:
-----
[anders@lon ~]$gst-inspect-0.10

Please either:
- remove it and restart.
- run with --gst-disable-segtrap and debug.

I've done the same as Mats, so now I'm back to my original look&feel. This bug seems to be similar to this one: http://bugs.donarmstrong.com/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=466985

So, could this be related to updated mesa-packages?

I haven't done any debug using gdb, so just a wild guess...

I've got the same problem here.
I also moved the /usr/lib/gstreamer-0.10/libgstlibvisual.so so everything seems to work fine right now.
But I'm a noob and I don't know for what the libgstlibvisual.so would be needed, so i would like to get the file back to its previous location when the bug is solved.

Confirming and re-assigning to libvisual-plugins because that seems to be where the segfault is happening, and downgrading to libvisual-0.4-plugins_0.4.0.dfsg.1-2_i386.deb stops the segfaulting.

Changed in gnome-settings-daemon:
status: New → Confirmed
Changed in libvisual-plugins:
importance: Undecided → High

Same problem here, I changed the name of libgstlibvisual.so and the appearence and rhythmbox (which were where I had found my problem) came back to normal after restarting the gnome-settings daemon
