Bug Description

In Ubuntu 8.10 security updates aren't enabled by default; I had to check that box (intrepid-security) manually in Software Sources - Updates. Only intrepid-updates were enabled by default (box was checked).

Thanks for your bugreport.

Could you please attach your /etc/apt/sources.list file? How did you install 8.10 ? I just tried a fresh install and for me security.ubuntu.com was enabled.

I can confirm this. The same for me after installing a clean from 8.10 alternate cd

I've just done an Intrepid installation with the desktop i386 cd on a VM, selecting Spanish, and it did add the intrepid-security deb lines correctly.

Thats curious. May it has something to do with that I had no internet connection while installing? I used the german alternate cd. But I can remember that this was in futher releases, too. Can somebody confirm this behavior with german alternate using an installation without an internet connection?

Confirming this for hardy also, people installaling it without internet connection wont enable security updates!

I reassign this to apt-setup for now. It got assigned to update-manager, but u-m is not concerned with fresh installs :)

affects: update-manager (Ubuntu) → apt-setup (Ubuntu)

I am closing this bug. Later releases work fine, and hardy will not get another iso re-spin.

Please feel free to open a new bug if this is reproducible with Ubuntu 12.04.
