You can attach images to bug reports, in fact it is very much appreciated if you do so :-)

In order to address this properly I will need some additional information:
1) What version of Okular and Kubuntu are you using?
2) Does this also happen with the free nvidia driver?
3) Does this also happen with a new user?
4) Does this happen with every document, or just some? Please also try if it only affects PDFs/ODTs etc.

Thank you for helping us improve Kubuntu.

1) I am using Kubuntu 8.10 and the version of Okular is 0.7.2
2) I have the same problem when i deactive the restricted nvidia driver
3) I'll test later. But I've deleted ~/.kde and all the dot files in my home folder, and the problem exists.
4) I've test three different PDF's, and one Odt. And i got all the same problem.

Do you or did you use a dual screen setup? Is your machine a laptop or a regular PC?

nope, i don't use dual screen there's just one laptop screen.

By the way, i've tested in my Slax with kde4, and it works fine.

BTW, do not know if this helps: The bug affects Fedora 9, but seems to disappear with Fedora-10-Snap3 Live CD images:

I use laptop hp compaq 6910 p. I have the same problem. Is this related to intel driver? Also my system hangs when an Open GL screen saver is used.

Hi
  I am a Kubuntu 8.10 kde4 amd64 user.
I have the same problem with okular then do not go to full-screen in presentation mode.
I have got a nvidia video card and I has same problem with both open-source and restricted Nvidia drivers.

 Workaround: I did install kpdf kde3 package from here https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/intrepid/+package/kpdf and libpoppler2 package from hardy (kubuntu 8.04 amd64 ). Download these 2 packages and install with : sudo dpkg -i ....

I can confirm this, Okular does not go full-screen in presentation mode.

I'm using Kubuntu Intrepid AMD64 and x86, KDE 4.1.3, Okular 0.7.3.

It happens with my portable conputer with GF7600 video card, with free and restricted nvidia driver. Also happens on a Dell desktop with intel graphics.

It happens with a clean fresh profile.

It hapens with every document/image I have tested.

Same here on Kubuntu Intrepid x86.

Okular 0.7.2 on KDE 4.1.2, nvidia restricted driver on a GeForce 6800 Ultra.

The presentation starts in the top left of my screen as on the screenshot in the first post!

Ah, interesting observation:

on my other account which has all my previous kde3 configuration files (and maybe some config files from a previous version of okular), it works !

If I create a brand new account on the same machine, it doesn't work (same as in the first post) !

There is a solution. First go to system settings.
And go to "Window Behavior" in the 'general' page , then click Window-Specific.
And then delete "Okular initial default size", done!!!!!!!

thanks a lot !
yesterday I have also found another fix: replace .kde/share/config/kwinrulesrc
by the one I had in kde 3.5. Don't ask me why then it works.
But your method is far better of course. In fact it should be related because
it is the file where the initial default size can be specified...

Why set this to "Invalid" ?
This is a true bug, since it appears by default for any new user. And the fix is far from easy to find...

Jonathan Thomas (echidnaman) wrote :

KDE set their bug to invalid, since the issue is Kubuntu-specific. If you'll look closely, you will see that the Ubuntu task is still set at confirmed. :-)

Anyway, the issue is the kwin rule that we were using to work around a bug. It should be removed now for Jaunty.

The issue at hand is with the kwinrulesrc in the kubuntu-default-settings package. We need to either remove this setting (which I think we should do) or get the sizing stuff correct (either in the rc file or fix a possible issue in kwinrules).

I say we remove the following from kubuntu-default-settings/kde4-profile/default/share/config/kwinrulesrc:

[15]
Description=Okular initial default size
size=750,560
sizerule=3
types=1
wmclass=okular
wmclasscomplete=false
wmclassmatch=1

Do any of the Kubuntu devs know why we have this setting? Is it because of the weird window size Okular used to start up as a while back? As it would start up very small and in the top left hand corner of the screen.

Also changing the Importance to low as this report does not qualify for anything higher. Thanks!

Harald Sitter (apachelogger) wrote :

It is necessary because of the text-next-to-icons setting we applied in 8.10, back then not all default window sizes were looking good using this setting so Riddell and seele tweaked them a bit.
AFAIK these changes were pushed upstream and thus can be dropped from 9.04 completely.

That said... I think Riddell mentioned that he would prepare an SRU and IIRC he also was in favor of dropping the okular rule completely.

This costum okular window rule on some configurations makes the app crash. This can lead to data loss (okular bookmarks, highlighting and so on). Because of this I propose to raise the priority from low to medium
See here for details:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kdegraphics/+bug/323908
(Note that disabling unredirect fullscreen windows in kwin config file fixes this crash, just like deleting the okular kwin rule, but it doesn't fix the presentation problem, so deleting okular kwin rule is still necessary)
