Binary package hint: xinetd

XINETD wasn't installed properly.
Update Manager could not be installed.
Sound (alsa) still not working since 7.04

Hello Dimitrios,
very sorry for not replying earlier, I hadn't noticed the email in the
big pile. I received an email saying bug closed, insufficient
information.

A clean cd install of Ubuntu 8.10 cured the problem.
