2) Set the option "Start Mail Notification on GNOME login".
3) Logoff and login.

Actual Results:
- Mail-notification doesn’t start automatically.

Expected Results:
- Mail-notification should start on GNOME login, and be viewed on Sessions -> Startup Programs.

Additional Builds and Platforms:
- It used to work on Ubuntu 5.10 (build from source) and Suse 10 (third part package).

Workaround:
“Do it yourself” as in http://www.novell.com/coolsolutions/tip/16861.html

I have this same issue. I hope it can be fixed, especially if Dapper's release is delayed. Mail-nofication is very nice to have.

it seems gnome way of storing startup files has changed (to follow freedesktop specs I think), I emailed the developper about this problem.

Well I also sent him a patch to solve this problem, he said he'll update to 2.14 in a few days.

Is this bug not related to this other one ->?

If so, it would seem that it's just been fixed.

Bernat,

Not exactly. Here, we are talking about the broke autostart "preference option" in mail-notification.

Yann has already created a patch. We are just waiting a new release from the developer (Jean-Yves Lefort).

BTW, this idea might be usefull in Ubuntu too. Does anyone else agree?

Seems Chuck2 has already applied the idea to Ubuntu package.

Still no response from Jean-Yves Lefort, maybe he didn't like the patch.

Hi,

Mail Notification 3.0 Release Candidate 1 [1] is out. I'll release 3.0
in a couple of days, without changing the translatable strings. If you
wish to update your translations, it is the right moment to do so. You
can update your .po file(s) with the following command:

 cd po && intltool-update <language code>

Note that the tarball now contains translation tips (in the
TRANSLATING file) which you might want to read before proceeding.

Thanks,
Jean-Yves Lefort

From the changelog:

 * The "Start Mail Notification on GNOME login" option
no longer worked with GNOME >= 2.14 and has been
removed: a .desktop file is now installed in the xdg
    autostart directory instead

for me, although gnome (?) unchecks the "start mail-notification on gnome login" option, it still starts on gnome login. also Bug #43058 says this is fixed in Dapper.

I attempted to fix this awhile back in Debian.
Could you test latest release in ubuntu, namely 4.0~rc2.dfsg.1-4 please?

The option is in mail-notification's preferences and should work as expected.

It is working to me (thanks Pascal). I have three points:
- mail-notification --sm-disable as i have in [Session -> Auto start programs], always open the properties window. It only happens if no mailboxes are set. Is it expected?

- The new option [Autostart Mail Notification upon session opening] (as expected) is not translated. I can translate for pt_BR. Anyone else?

- Are you suggesting it upstream?

yes, it is.

Claudio: The new option [Autostart Mail Notification upon session opening] (as expected) is not translated. I can translate for pt_BR. Anyone else?

I'd gladly take your translation. I did the one for french.

Claudio: Are you suggesting it upstream?

I already did. The upstream author says that the user should do it the Gnome way. Namely adding mail-notification by going in Desktop -> Preferences -> Sessions.

Changed in mail-notification:
assignee: nobody → pascalgiard-debian
status: In Progress → Fix Released
