Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-bluetooth

Would be great to have an option in the bluetooth applet to completely switch off & on the bluetooth device, so that it doesn't consume battery when not needed.

The battery in my MBP lasts no more than 1 hour in Ubuntu, while it works for more than 2-3 hours in Mac OS X, so I guess it's due to this kind of things (disabling bluetooth device in Mac OS X is easily done from the equivalent applet).

It would be nice to see it in Kubuntu, too.
Kbluetooth works quite well. (Except no audio and no kbluelock, because of crappy bluez backend)..

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, I am closing it because the bug has been fixed in the latest development version of Ubuntu - Karmic Koala. It won't be fixed in previous versions of Ubuntu because the package doesn't fit the requirements for backporting. See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuBackports for more information.

Maybe this is related to my hardware (Thinkpad X61s), but in the applet's preferences menu I have only the following options: "Make computer discoverable" and "Show Bluetooth icon". Nothing related to switching off.
