preferences lost after upgrade to Dapper

Bug Description

After an upgrade from Breezy to Dapper, all xchat preferences (i.e., channels I log into regularly, identity/nick, etc) were lost. Upon invoking xchat for the first time after upgrade, I got the "since this is the first time you have used xchat,..." set up stuff.

Seems to me that we should remember user configs/preferences through an upgrade.

Thanks for your bug. That's not expected, packages don't touch to your user configuration and that list is stored to ~/.xchat2/servlist_.conf.

Did you change your user directory, or moved some stuff away?
Do you run xchat or xchat-gnome?
Does ~/.xchat2/servlist_.conf contains the list of your chan (don't put it to malone it has your passwords by example)?

It looks like we switched from xchat to xchat-gnome? I didn't realise there were 2 different things. I think I was running xchat with Breezy and was automatically changed to xchat-gnome with Dapper. Which is fine I guess, but the loss of settings is odd. So the stuff that is missing in xchat-gnome are the settings that were stored in ~/.xchat2/usermenu.conf

(Note that we don't install an IRC client with dapper and don't switch people from xchat to xchat-gnome, they have to install xchat-gnome to get it)

Guillaume, is xchat-gnome known to not use usermenu.conf settings from xchat?

Jane, the lists of channels you join, etc is not stored to that file ... did those settings got dropped on upgrad too? That seems weird, they use the same configuration file and there is no reason it has been dropped on upgrade

I don't think x-g uses this file and a quick grep in source code seems to confirm that.

For others settings (channels, ...) that's very strange indeed.

We stopped installing xchat-gnome by default before dapper, they are different program, if an user choice to install xchat-gnome instead of xchat he might have to update some configure option. That's not really a bug, closing now
