network-manager 0.7-0ubuntu1

Steps to Reproduce:

2. Wait for authentication to fail

Expected:
NetworkManager keeps running

Can confirm. NetworkManager's init script has to be started again afterwards. Using a PPTP VPN connection to trigger the crash. nm-applet notifies you that the connection failed before NM's crash (or before it realizes NM has crashed) as described. Also seems to occur after *any* type of connection failure, not just authentication.

Something I just noticed: I can still use my wireless connection as usual after the crash, even though the NetworkManager service is not running. Maybe that's intended behavior, but I figured it could be useful information.

I can't keep using wireless through NM applet after the crash. iwconfig
to the rescue in this case.

I was using a Cisco VPN by the way. Just started noticing this
happening yesterday.

This happened to me on a wired connection as well. VPN fails and then I am informed that network-manager has crashed.

I can confirm this as well. Wireless doesn't have anything to do with it - if you loose your VPN connection then network manager will crash.

This bug has vanished on my computer with the latest uploads. Could someone else confirm this too?

That's true, 0.7.1~rc1-0ubuntu2 on my machine doesn't have this problem anymore.

@Mackenzie: can you check this problem with the last ubuntu version (ubuntu 11.04 natty narwall) that includes an updated network-manager? Jaunty reached end-of-life some time ago.
