Bug Description
Binary package hint: xserver-
1) ubuntu jaunty
2) xserver-
3) X to start (maybe not work)
4) errors out and does not start:
(EE) NOUVEAU(0): Pointer to LVDS manufacturer table invalid
(EE) NOUVEAU(0): 1373: No valid modes.
(EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration.
This is a nforce2 motherboard using the integrated GPU.
02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV18 [GeForce4 MX - nForce GPU] (rev a3)
It seems like the driver is mistakenly thinking it is a laptop and trying to read non-existent LVDS stuff from the bios. If I comment out the parts in nv_bios.c that parse the lvds info(or call that method) it will start but doesn't quite work right.
Thank you for testing the new -nouveau driver and reporting your finding of a problem.
However, while we are providing -nouveau for testers to experiment with, we are not yet supporting -nouveau in Ubuntu and will not be following up on this bug at this time.
It sounds like you have a good lead on finding a solution to this problem associated with lvds detection though, and I would strongly encourage you to contact the upstream developers directly and work with them on finding a solution.
