Bug Description

Created for ~fedmor from question 60861.

"I see that the very latest Bazaar revision let set an automated URL shortening system, but it doesn't allow to choose which one to use: http://is.gd/ creates 18-characters URIs, but – if I remember well – it doesn't make use of permanent redirection [301], while TinyURL does (although it outputs 25-characters ones). IMHO, it could be interesting to let the user choice which service to use for URL shortening — and I'm sure that TinyURL libraries are available for Ubuntu!"

suggest using this defect to add support for a few of the most popular services, since we are adding more, e.g., bit.ly, tinyurl, snip.url, tr.im

Additionally, I'd like to be able to switch off URL shortening completely.

You already can, its in the preferences as a checkbox for "automatically shorten URLs"

re the supported services, rather than adding each one in turn to __init.py__ in /urlshorter why not just do "from . import *" ? This would mean you (or users) could just drop in new ones and have them work (ok, possibly needing a restart).
