Bug Description

Binary package hint: xorg

I am using Kubuntu Intrepid 8.10 with KDE 4.1.4 on a Compaq Presario 773EL notebook. The video card is a GM965 which uses the intel driver.

I installed the last version of Google Earth: 5.0.11337.1968 (beta). I noticed several problems with it, such as flashing and texture errors. After a while, the X server crashed and the system hung.

Some useful info:

Hi Jan,

I know the application did not come from any official Ubuntu repository, and I certainly would have reported the issue to the Google Earth support only, if I had experienced nothing more than a crash of Google Earth itself.

Unfortunately, the final consequence was a X server failure, which ultimately resulted in a system wide crash (system unresponsive and hard restart needed), that sounds like a far more critical issue.

Actually, I have seen lots of errors in the Xorg.0.log.old and thought they might imply a bug in Xorg or in the intel driver, which was someway "triggered" by GE: that is why I reported the issue here, as well.
Do you think all those errors come only from a bug in Google Earth?

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Thank you once again and thanks for the feedback! The bug report seems to be assigned correctly, so leaving this as new for somebody to confirm the behaviour, since I don't have the required hardware (using nvidia).

We're closing this bug since it is has been some time with no response from the original reporter. However, if the issue still exists please feel free to reopen with the requested information. Also, if you could, please test against the latest development version of Ubuntu, since this confirms the bug is one we may be able to pass upstream for help.

Sorry but I cannot do any further test as I recently changed my laptop, and now have a different video chipset.
All the same, thank you for your care about it.
